Meetings          Lezant  Group Meeting  7.30pm 27th January 2005    at Lower Trekenna     July-September Report

The meeting is an opportunity for members of the group to ask questions, to be updated on any changes to methodology, find out about what is happening in nature in the coming months, and to exchange the wildlife diaries

Brian opened the meeting by circulating a copy of the 2005 Parish Wildlife Calendar and showing pictures received to date from members for the next calendar, requesting photographers in the parish to contribute.
He reported that the Fern and Grass book displayed at the Christmas Quiz was now reduced in price to £6. and was available from the bookshop in Launceston opposite the Church.

Observations in the last 3 months  from the group.  A flock of 4 Warbler's or Chiffchaff's in Rezare. A flock of 10 Buzzards at Rezare, 20 Buzzards at Trekenner, 13 Buzzards at Trecarrell and 5 Buzzards at Lezant. Good reports of Birds of Prey including Peregrines in Rezare. Sparrow Hawks seen in most areas. Redwings were reported to be moving towards the Southwest and members would look out for sightings. A Hobby had only been reported by one person, and Brian Stringer said that others had been reported from time to time in other parishes.

F
locks of Long Tailed Tits, Fieldfares and Redwings  were being seenin all areas. A Kingfisher, Stoat, Woodcock and Snipe in Lezant. Snipe at Trekenner and Trecarrell. A family of 4 Ravens, a Golden Plover, a flock of 100 Lapwings, Treecreepers, Bull Finches, Moorhens and Little Owls were seen at Trecarrell. Otters were believed to still be at Beals's Mill, though the river was high. Red and Roe deer seen and shot at Trecarrell by landowner. Stonechats were reported on the Inny. Rabbits a big problem in some areas Lezant and Rezare but not others, causing significant damage to hedges and banks.

The Quarterly Report for July to September 2004 was presented by Alison. The report is presented in full here. She explained how the report was compiled from the wildlife diaries returned by members.

Looking Forward over the next few months. Brian directed members to the notes in the new wildlife diary listing things to look out from up to April 2005. He
played a list of common bird songs linked to a visual display to the group to help aid identification

Future events were outlined especially the woodland walk in early February.  A TV program to look out for was BBC 1 Sunday 6th February Country File 11.30 features the Tamar.

Actions. Irene Nash (Lezant Parish Co-ordinator) would set up  and circulate email lists for Lezant to encourage communication between members
