Wildlife Diary Analysis for Lezant                  Background

As many people as possible in a parish are invited to record what they see on their own patch over a 3 month period and record the information on 3 forms.

 - A Species Checklist to record set species seen only on their own patch. The time period is fixed to a set, 3-month period, the location is fixed and each species is listed, so the only thing to record against any species is the maximum number of that species seen at any one time in that 3-month period..
 - A Special Event form provides the opportunity to record more information for any observation, either on the special patch or anywhere else, but preferably within the parish.
 - A Quarterly Plant Species List to record the Tetrads where selected plants are found within the parish.

Analysis.
Up to March 2005, these records have been analysed by hand. The information from all the members is gathered on summary forms, so it is possible to comment on what the parish as a whole is finding. From April 2005, it is planned to enter the information into a database for more detailed analysis.

Results
. The information from the manual analysis is presented in 3 month reports, which are circulated to each of the members. The reports are also presented on the website.
